Memories – Layout by Kim Arnold

I have a layout for you today using the new Vintage Artistry Hike More collection – which I love! My little niece is obsessed with dinosaurs and so I have used the Hike More collection to create a layout that has the feeling of a forest glade that she is playing in while dressed as a dinosaur. The whimsical rub-ons in this range made it so easy to achieve this.

I started by deciding where on the layout I wanted my photo to be. The In the Thicket paper already had some ferns, flowers, and mushrooms around the edges, so putting the photo towards the middle worked perfectly. I layer the photo with elements from the 3×4 File frame set and cut a card from the Hike More Journal Card paper to sit beside the photo.

Before attaching the photo I decided to create a watercolor wash behind where the photo was to sit. I used clear gesso first and then used blue ink mixed with some water and the packaging technique to make a soft watercolor effect. I then added green ink through a dotty stencil in places around the layout and inked the edges of the paper with the green ink.

Once the paper dried, I attached the photo and the journaling card. I then added a selection of rub-ons from the Hike More Rub-On Transfers to the journaling card, below the journaling card, the bird perched on the photo, and to the mushroom cluster at the bottom of the page.

I then added clusters of flowers and leaves to the left and right of the photo and journaling tag cluster using a mixture of Ocean Jade coloured Royal Posies and Royal Spray flowers. The beautiful rose gold Shaped and Word Clips were then added to the frame around the photo. Finally, I added some microbeads to the flowers and some white splatters with acrylic paint to the background. When my journaling was added the layout was done.
