For today’s project I have gone off the page and made a frame for my mum. She has been very sick and due to COVID I have not been able to return to Australia to see her. Luckily due to amazing medical care she is doing much better and I wanted to send her something beautiful to lift her spirits.

I made this in pink and sage colourway. However, you could easily use any of the beautiful Vintage Artistry in Color collections to replicate this project.
I started with a gold frame that was in my craft stash. My frame is 8×10 inches, but you could do something similar in other size frames. I used the backboard of the frame to build my project on. Simply remove and discard the glass and photo mat if there is one.

I knew that I wanted to build a raised section in the centre of the frame and I made this with two 5×7 inch chipboard pieces that I stuck together. I covered the back board with Vintage Artistry in Sage Delicate paper and the raised section with Vintage Artistry Sage Papillon. I then mapped out how my project was going to look and using that, added natural rubons from the Vintage Artistry Coral / Natural Rub-On Tranfers to the back board so they would show around the edges of the raised section. I then added clear crackle paste around the edges of the back board piece and set it aside to dry naturally so that good cracks formed. Be warned that the crackle paste I used did not stick to the rub-ons once dry.

I then started work on the raised section. I inked the edges and glued a layer of gauze under the piece. I then used large ephemera pieces from the Vintage Artistry Sage Nouveau Ephemera Stack and laser cut tags, doily pieces and flowers from the Vintage Artistry Blush Collection Pack to layer under the centre section so pieces showed around the edges to give texture and dimension. The final layer is burlap ribbon cut so it just peaks distressed edges out from the ephemera elements.
I then stamped roughly around the edges using the Springtime Harmony Stamp Set and brown permanent ink and used a diamond stencil to add texture paste randomly. Once this was dry, I added light water colour to the texture paste to tint it pink.

Create a cluster of flowers below the frame using a selection of Royal Spray Passion Pink, Royal Posies Passion Pink and Ivory, and Majestic Bouquet Ivory paper flowers. Glue the resin key on top of the flowers below the frame.
Create a small cluster of flowers in the top right corner of the centre section with three ivory flowers. Add a butterfly from the laser cuts from the Vintage Artistry Blush Collection Pack to each flower cluster and then finish with glitter, pearls and sequins.
Add some of the Wishing Bubbles and Baubles – Blush to the background around the frame.
There is a process video for this project – I managed to get 4.5 hours of footage to 22 minutes so that you are able to see the full process. I hope you have some creative time soon.
