Happiness – Layout by Kim Arnold

Happiness - Layout by Kim Arnold

For today’s layout, I am using Vintage Artistry in Color – Teal to scrapbook this older photo of my son and me. I just adore this paper with the butterflies and knew that I could use the beautiful Rub-On Transfers to further enhance this lovely paper.

Happiness - Layout by Kim Arnold

I started with the Breeze paper from the Collection Pack. I decided to retain the salvage strip due to the beautiful phrase that it had on it and cut the paper to 12 inches from the top. I knew that I wanted to use the Teal and Mango Rub-On Transfers to build the arc of butterflies further around the page, so I decided that I would place my photo within that arc to the far right of the page. I would then need to balance the photo with an embellishment cluster on the left of the page.

I started by using the frame from the laser cut elements in the Teal Collection Pack to frame the photo. I then added lots of different elements from the Teal Ephemera Stacks under the photo. I inked the edges of each piece before I added it under the photo. I like to build my stack separately before I attach it to the page. Once the stack was built, but before it was attached to the page, I added natural strips from the Coral/Natural Rub-On Transfers down the right hand edge of the page. I then glued down the photo stack.

To finish embellishing the photo stack, I added photo turn hardware to the top right corner of the frame, string, phrase and a small butterfly from the laser cut elements, a Teal Wishing Bubbles and Baubles and a small Enchanted Petals flower in Parchment. The Happiness Title was created from the salvage strip of the Vintage Artistry Teal Flutter paper which I used for both the title – making it into a tag – and for the teal stitched strip down the left hand side of the page.

I then added some of the distressed splat rubons from the Coral/Natural Rub-On Transfers around the outside of the layers of the photo stack along with some of the sequins Rub-Ons from the Teal and Mango Rub-On Transfers.

I then completed the arc of butterflies using various butterflies from the Vintage Artistry Teal and Mango Rub-On Transfers. A stitched Rub-On was also added to the edge of the salvage strip at the bottom of the page.

The cluster of embellishments on the left of the page was created using the salvage strip of the Vintage Artistry Teal Flutter paper which already has the sewing on it (perfect!), a ticket from the Teal Ephemera Stacks, the phrase, flowers and large butterfly from the laser cut elements, two of the Teal Wishing Bubbles and Baubles and another small Enchanted Petals flower in Parchment. A couple of screws from the Essentials Hardware look like they are holding the phrase piece on. Before all of these pieces were attached, a doily from the Coral/Natural Rub-On Transfers was added to the background paper. Once the embellishments were stuck down, more Rub-On sequins were added.

The final touches were done by cutting away and distressing a section in the top left corner of the layout and filling that in with a piece of ephemera from the Teal Ephemera Stacks. I then splattered some white acrylic ink across the butterflies. There is a process video available to show you the exact steps that I took to make this layout.
